These varieties are two of the UKs most widely grown selections and are very good for the commercial grower or the gardener. This is one of the earliest and best all round fruiting cultivars it is a well know variety throughout the UK and fruits within three to four years. it is self fertile with a slightly pointed nut.

Buccaneer

A variety with a more upright habit than most. For this reason it is ideal for avenue plantings. Cropping can occur from year four. The nuts are round in shape and well suited to pickled Walnut production.

A new French variety with the same parentage and similar characteristics as Fernor (Franquette x Lara) below. Produces very good quality, large, globular nuts. A suitable pollinator for Fernor along with Ronde de Montignac.

An excellent new French variety, late leafing, precocious flowering, lateral fruiting and blight tolerant. Late ripening, large fruit of excellent quality; light coloured, easily extracted kernels which store well and have excellent flavour. In France, yields of 1 tonne per hectare at 6-years-old and 4-5 tonnes per hectare when mature are typical. Average vigour and semi erect habit. Suitable for hedgerow systems (4m x 8m).

Traditional French variety, late leafing, good productivity, excellent nut quality, terminal bearer (1- 2 nuts per terminal), requires little pruning, yields only fair compared to modern lateral bearing varieties such as Fernor and Lara. Partly self- fertile, bearing fruit at 3-5 years. Late fruiting season, nut size mid to large and well sealed. Resistance to blight and codling moth.

This variety is from the Czech Institute and comes into cropping early with a good crop of large nuts ready for picking in Mid September. The nuts are thin shelled and it is late into leaf to avoid frost.

French variety, good fruit quality, precocious and highly productivity. Early budbreak and fruit ripening. Average vigour, quite upright in habit and lateral bearing make it suitable for hedgerow systems (4m x 8m).

This variety is from the Czech Institute and is ideal for the garden and orchard planting. The tree has medium vigour and produces very good thin shelled nuts with an exceptional sweet flavour. The nuts are ready for picking mid October.

The tree habit is of medium vigour and bears a very attractive red walnut. It has been described as the blood orange of the walnut world.
